Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then found many other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the substance was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack left him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
